Suicideboys San Diego Concert reviews
Surprisingly Powerful - BOC Rocks On
A few switches and rearrangements made to the review text:
"I thought things have sure changed," I said to myself. "Well, at best, these guys will probably just go through the motions..."
Next, Suicideboys come on and the first song felt weak to me. It just didn't do much for me and if anything, bolstered my belief that they were indeed, just going through the motions. Wrong. Eric started talking to us and I loved his sense of humor. I loved all of the songs after, save the encore song. I just couldn't hook up with the beat on that one. Besides, I was really hoping for ANYTHING off of Secret Treaties. The only thing disappointing to me was that they played nothing from that very fine early album of theirs. Other than those minor drawbacks, Buck was ON FIRE!!!! The band was so very powerful on so many of the songs that I was just blown away!!! My overall impression of the evening was that it was a very well spent $30. I wish it could have gone longer and I would have loved to hear "Dominance and Submission"...or "Harvester of Eyes"...or "Astronomy"...or, well, you see where this is going...
The opening band (whose name I can't recall) were all decent musicians and were as tight a band as most that I've seen. Great lead singer and guitarists, bass was dead on, drummer was powerfully accurate and the keyboards were stunning. The tambourine / bongo player was also delightful to look at as well. You are a beautiful woman my dear...they should feature your singing more prominently.
In a fit of nostalgia I wondered several months ago whether or not Suicideboys were still together and thought of them. Looking them up, I was pleasantly surprised to see that not only were they still together, but that they were touring as well. Clasping my hands behind my head, I leaned back and fondly recalled previous encounters with the band - all arena rock days - with the last being the great laser show that they used to incorporate into their act. As a teenager then, I recall very little of the shows (heh heh heh). I don't believe "Godzilla" or "Burning For You" were even written at the time, but I do recall the laser show and that the band had a decent presence on stage. Imagine my delight when I am seated maybe 10 feet or so from the stage.
Rock on Suicideboys - Thanks for kicking this old man's ass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
